Mad Max Gets a New Game for Next Gen Consoles

2014 is quickly shaping up to be a great year for fans of the Mad Max series. With the new movie Fury Road already in post production, it was announced Monday at E3 that a new videogame adaptation featuring the infamous anti-hero is also in the works. The last time any console saw Max was in 1990 on the NES, but Avalanche Studios -the same team responsible for the "Just Cause" games- has teamed up with Warner Brothers to bring the road warrior back in an all new interactive adventure that will be coming to PC as well as current gen and next gen consoles.

Looks like Ubisofts "The Crew" wont be the only game capable of jacking up Mustangs with monster tires.
Peter Johansson, who's the projects Senior Game Designer mentioned in an interview with Game Trailers that the game will be a massive open world third person action game. The details surrounding this completely new and canon-independent story is that while exploring the vast wastelands, Max's iconic XB Falcon interceptor gets stolen by a group of marauders and now must build a new battle ready machine with the help of a new befriended mechanic.  In order to do that however, he must scavenge the land for various parts, supplies, and fuel in the huge harsh environments surrounding him all the while battling the many rival gangs that inhabit the area.  It is unclear at the moment if players will be limited to a single vehicle to serve as their mechanical canvas or if multiple model types will be available at their disposal but it is certain that customizing will play a huge role in the finished product.  Upgrading and tuning engines, turbos, suspensions, along with implementing a wide variety of visual modifications hopes to be so in depth that every car created will be truly unique. Vehicles will have a realistic heavy feel to them as a new physics engine has been developed to help everything feel as authentic as possible in this vehicular combat oriented game. One thing for sure is if you're the type of person who likes getting nerdy with adjusting how your ride handles and accelerates, Mad Max is sure to please.

Mad Max's environments will be gorgeous, in very gloomy sort a way.

Being a massive open world title, Mad Max will share a plethora of side missions along with the story driven ones to keep players busy. Like "Red Dead Redemption", players will also have random events arise where they can choose to engage in how they see fit or have the ability to ignore the situations all together.  Since Max is known to be the "loner sort" no multiplayer or co-op mode will be available. Avalanche's personnel declined to comment on whether Max's canine companion will be in the game but since the game won't be mentioning any of the key events in the films it's anyone's guess. Max will not depict likeness of either Mel Gibson or Tom Hardy but instead will take on an original rugged appearance but will sport the iconic black leather outfit the character is known for. Developers have said that the game will not shy away from violence and reports from people lucky enough to play the live demo have stated that the gore was cranked up to eleven. Though it's way too early to tell, Mad Max is already sounding like a promising title. With Avalanche Studios working along with Warner Brothers -a company with plenty of big hits under its belt as of lately-  fans, including myself can't wait to find out more.

Those who haven't seen the CGI trailer yet definitely owe it to themselves to check it out. It's short but like the XB Falcon interceptor, is very powerful.
